I don't know if your Nuvi is different... I have a Nuvi 650 and all you have to do is go to your settings and change your "Splash screen". You'll need to load some pics on it though. I have a pic of my Supra, I smile every time I see it. (Haven't driven it in a long time.)

To the OP, great install...very clean!

Well, I finally got around to making a decent removable rear cover. I have no formal training on how to do any of this, so I had to leverage my grade school model building skills! Yep, that back cover is made of fiberglass stretched over a balsa wood frame. I didn't want to deal with the many imperfections so it's all covered in DI-NOC vinyl. The two reasons I wanted the cover to be removable is for physical access to the SD card (I can still read/write to it via USB) and in case I want to replace the internals.

I also went ahead and remodeled face of the door itself since I did not like the recessed look, the textured black paint was an eyesore, and I wanted to reduce the thickness of the rear cover as much as possible. Right now I'm still waiting for the countersunk screws to arrive in the mail, then it'll finally be done. Here are the updated pics!

UPDATE - Man, I love the holidays! It seems like shipping is expedited for everything. The screws came in today and they fit just right.

UPDATE - Arghhhh!!! Even the new paint color looks terrible! It's not really the paint color itself (graphite grey metallic) that looks bad, but the fact that the center console and center switch trim both have the brushed aluminum look. I went ahead and covered everything. YouTube video here!

I don't see this mentioned anywhere so I am assuming this completely replaces your car stereo, yes?

How hard was it to replace the back of the cover door? My headunit (Alpine IDA-X305) pushes against the knob when I close it. It's the stupid card holders or whatever those useless pieces are for. I was considering removing the back piece, but I like the way you did yours better. Was it difficult to do? Any DIY?

All the work was done primarily to allow me to keep my stereo in its stock position.

VERY difficult, for me. For someone with more experience it might be a lot easier. The stock back cover is fused to the door itself and takes some very careful prying to get it off without damaging the door. Once that's done, there will be a lot of grinding and filling to get the exposed side of the door smooth again.

I finally saw the Youtube video. Looks really nice! I'm seriously starting to consider this type of mod.
