Garmin GPS hardwired finally
good work!
I have my Mio mounted in the same place --but haven't been able to get power to the miniUSB -
angle/hinge problems
(so my radio door is sitting on my desk and the GPS isn't helping me much).
Question: Looks like you might have taken the back plate off the GPS too? I didn't do that but will have to in order to get the mini USB hooked up.
Again good job

I'm in for updates on this install or pictures of any other installs.
I also have some questions for aphex4000 -
1. which model Nuvi did you end up going with?
2. you mentioned soldering, what exactly needed to be soldered/modified (besides the obvious and replaceable radio door) in order to complete this install? I'm curious how easily it would be to return this to stock.
Thanks!

For soldering, I needed to run lines for the speaker, the switch, and the USB port. Wiring the speaker was easy since there is a plug inside. I just cut the speaker off the plug and extended the wire. The switch on the Nuvi is has three positions with five poles. I needed to solder two poles to allow me to turn the Nuvi on and off manually (it turns on automatically with the ignition, but I don't always want the screen turned on - see video @ 1:18). The USB port needed three wires for power and charging. The biggest challenge in getting the connections soldered is the close proximity of nearby components.
It is very easy to go back to stock. All you need is a new door as the modifications to the vents cannot be seen once installed.
