If you want to run without amp I would look in to Polk MM6501 it has a higher sensitivity and most importantly it runs at lower ohm so it does twice the volume with the same power.

I had the db6501 installed for the pass three years. THere good speakers. I just recently got a jl 300/2 amp to power them up. I can't wait to install the amp.

Sorry to threadjack,

do most people run these at 0DB for the crossover? i'm contemplating on changing it to -3 because they sound a bit bright but I don't want to open the door panel again and be unsatisfied. Should I just change the EQ settings on my head unit?

I have always amped my speakers even if I don't like to crank them loud, the detail alone makes amping components worth it.

I set mine to -3 cuz they are pretty bright on the higher volumes...don't think its worth taking out the doors if your headunit can adjust it to your liking
