Ghetto Door Speaker Install/Tutorial for Dummies
As the title says this is for dummies and is probably more basic than it needs to be, but nonetheless here it is.
So this week I installed a pair of Kicker 650 6.5" (165mm) Coaxial Speakers. I went on the Crutchfield website after reading on the forums here and saw that there were only two options listed as fitting the S (Kenwood and some other brand). My old man works at an electronics store so I wanted to try and save myself and get something from him.
I spoke to the car audio guy at the store who recommended Kicker. The guy made some calls and later told me these speakers would easily fit in an S2000 with little to
no modification. I even inquired about purchasing additional spacers and unfortunately he told me I would not need them.
So the day comes to install the speakers.
The door panels:
4 screws in each door. Two in the handles used to pull the door shut. One behind the handle to open the door and open tab screw in the seam (location of the bolts circled in picture below). Pull the door panel away from the bottom first, all the clips pop out pretty easily.

Remove the bolts and pull the door off then remove the clips that connect the wiring from the door to the door panel.
The speakers and speaker baskets were next to be removed.

To avoid cutting wires I removed the Honda plug and play clips from the wires to expose the connectors. Tabs on the plugs hold the connectors in the plugs.
The Kicker speakers are 2-1/8" (5.4 cm) deep and 5-5/8 (14.3 cm) tall so they would not fit flush to the door, even when using the single spacer that was provided with the speakers. Because of how deep the Kicker speakers are I was forced to use 2 spacers on each side (I had an extra pair of spacers by from my old car) and furniture foot padding below that to create the proper space for the speaker to fit.

To make the speaker fit flush with the spacers in place the yellow tabs were removed with an exacto knife.

New holes were drilled to mount the speakers with a 7/64" (2.5 mm) drill bit.
The wires were crimped together using pliers and the speaker was then attached using the screws that came with the Kicker kit.

In terms of sound quality I am very happy. I can turn the bass up to +6 on the stock deck and I get no rattling or buzzing at volume 25 like I would with the stock speakers. With the top down these speakers sound great as well. So if anyone is going to purchase these speakers I would suggest buying 2 additional spacers for each door or 1 additional 3/8" to 1/2" spacer for each door.
