Subless setup /w Focal components
I dug out my old Focal Polyglasses from my RSX and I'm thinking about picking up one of those new Alpine tiny amps to go with them in the S2k... Only I don't want to weigh this car down with a sub. Any idea how well these things will fare subless? I never tried them full range and I suspect they really were not designed for it.
With sub and all, my car is faster than ever! The turbo might have something to do with it though.
Focals have pretty solid midbass, but on the lower end...well...they are not a sub. If you can live with 85% as good, it will sound fine. No reward without sacrifice my friend.

Dynamatting the doors will help them out a bit, also.

Remember, this is a convertible. Unless you're rocking a HT, Dynamat is close to throwing away money - there's only so much road noise you can block before you realize that with the top down all the dynamat in the world doesn't make a difference...

Thanks for the advice
Still debating eventually doing a small sub, but I know I'm never going to match the sound I had in my RSX in this car, so I want to stay realistic here.
Focal Polyglasses are technically a step below the Polykevlars, but to my ear they sounded better, a little warmer. Was about to get the k2ps way back when I got these things and then heard them side by side and changed my mind. K2Ps can deal with a little more power, but these were still way more than loud enough for me.

I would say it's entirely possible... with the right equipment and attention to install details
I am running a 165K3 (6.5" woofer, 4" mid, and 1" tweeter) Focal Polykevlar set. They are rated at 200 watts RMS, and I am feeding them only 150RMS from a Zapco 1000.4. I Cascade VBMax'ed (similar to Dynamat) the doors. Sealing off and sound deadening the door is IMO what helped the most, that and the high power handling. I also installed a special Focal Sound Deadening Honeycomb material (the name of which I have forgotten), directly behind the woofers.
Currently I'm not running a sub (temporarily) and I'm sending my front components a full range signal with the exception of a 20hz subsonic filter - not audible, just to prevent damage.
Everyone that has sat in my car is convinced that I am running at least a 12" in the trunk, even with the top down. The two 6.5" woofers alone are enough to make all the mirrors vibrate, and the soft top shake.
EDIT: I will add it is also completely dependent on your musical tastes. If you listen to a lot of R&B and rap with heavy bass notes and bass drops, a nice set of components will not fulfill your needs. If you listen to rock, alternative, jazz, classical, or even metal etc... the responsiveness and kick from a nice set of 6.5's will satisfy you
