Going to MP3
I just got an MP3 Discman and I'm contemplating getting an MP3 capable deck for the car. I'm new at converting .wav files to MP3.
I have Magix MP3 Maker software and started converting some files. The conversion menus has many choices. I started with MP3 High Quality, but noticed that there is also an MP3Pro. What's the difference? I also noticed the freq limit goes up to 48k. Can anyone hear a difference between 44.1k and 48k?
When I play the files on the Discman, it doesn't sound perfect. There seems to be some wavieness to some vocals, and the songs may have lost some high end. When listening to the songs on the computer with mid-quality speakers, the MP3 files sound the same as the .wav files. Has anyone experienced any sound quality loss in the conversion? I converted the files using MP3 High Quality at 128kbps and either 44.1k and 48k hz.

I believe "CD Quality" is 192kbs. You will definitely notice some musical variation at 128kbs (usually things are more muddied).
I use a good program called Ace Xtractor (I think). You can get the shareware, small install from the web.
