*shrug*

hard to say. it would depend upon the enclosure type and size.

in William's box? i'd vote for around 300 Wrms.

I've been looking around at amps, and I think I"m gonna go with the PG Tantrum 600.4. Will this be suffiicient to drive my front components and an RF Punch Stage 2?

The Tantrum is 75W x 4 RMS, so if I bridge two channels into the Sub, that should provide more than enough to drive the 200W sub rite? Plus when I upgrade my fronts eventually, I'll have a good amount of power to play with (I'm thinking Inf. Kappas?)

Thoughts? (not to detract from the local vs. internet audio shop debate )

what front components do you currently have now? stock? 74 Wrms to those babies could kill them if you get happy w/ the volume knob. also, if the Stage 2 is rated for 200 Wrms, i'm recalling that the 600.4 sends 300 Wrms when you bridge 2 channels..

looks like you're going to be pushing the limits of what you have (sub for sure, and if you do have the OEM speakers definitely them).

it's a nice amp, but you will need to exhibit substantial restraint.

what are you using for your music source?

The components I'm not sure about, but they're about shot anyway so I'll be getting new ones in the mid-term (i'm thinkin Kappas).

For source, I've got Alpine 7892 installed currently, will keep that for quite a while.

I had thought it's better to overpower speakers/amps than under power, and if you overpower you can protect them by using the x-over?

generally, it is better to overpower a speaker slightly, but that's usually w/in a 20% or so window. ie. power should be 120% or less. but i believe you're looking at a 150% overpowering. you've definitely left the manufacturer's fudge factor range and entered the range where you can damage your speaker with that much power.

you will need to exhibit restraint using this sub.

and a crossover will not protect from overpowering. it might help protect from underpowering.

read this - it should answer some questions:

So then, would I want to find a smaller amp and drive the Sub will around 200W RMS, drive the speakers with around 60W RMS?

i don't think there are any 60W x 4 amps out thee are there? So then should I get a 50 W x 4?

That would give 200W RMS bridged to the sub (ideal?) and give 50 W to each speaker, which should be safe. But then if I upgrade to Kappas they'll be pretty underpowered 75W RMS).

well --

how experienced are you with audio?

i didn't say you shouldn't do it, but that you will need to exhibit restraint...

to some extent it will depend upon setting the system up correctly and knowing how to properly hear and prevent distortion...

or you just may not be able to use a 4 channel solution...

I'm not terribly experienced with audio, I'm thinking of getting professionally installed (i have audio experienced friends who want to do the install with me, but I leaning more and more towards a shop..)
