Im hardwiring my escort passport with a telephone wire and i opened up the power thing for the cigarette light and found i need to use the green and yellow wires for power and ground, but i am clueless as to which is ground and which is power. Can anyone help me out?

 

If I were you, I would get a voltmeter and test each lead, using a black wire or metal bracket (one directly connected to the chasis) as a baseline. Yellow usually is the non-switched power. I don't know if the green is ground, or a switched power. Good luck

 

i have a voltmeter, but i dont know how to test the wires. If you could gimme some instructions that would be great. Thanks

 

the wire connected to the center should be the +; the wire connected to the side of the socket should be -.

 

When you say you see green and yellow wires, where exactly are you seeing them? According to the 2000-2003 Service Manual, the accessory power connector (the thing that looks like a cigarette lighter) should have a white/red wire (switched power) and a black wire (ground). I would be leary if I saw anything else there.

As far as testing, if you take the black lead of your voltmeter and touch it to any metal part of the car chassis it will be grounded. Take the red lead, and touch it to one or the other wire to test the voltage of that wire. If it is powered, you will see ~12VDC; if it is ground, you should see 0VDC. If neither show a voltage, then either a) your accessory power is not turned on, b) neither wire is powered, or c) your ground lead is not grounded properly.
