I've recently purchased a hardtop fitting kit from hardtopguy, and wonder if anyone knows the answer to my hardtop harness question ?

The instructions refer to a 4 pin connector(and the adapter has this) behind the driver seat. My S is a early MY00, and all I can find is a loose 3 pin adapter. I'm guessing that I have the wrong harness - does anyone know how to convert / wire the 3pin to 4pin ?

I believe that there is a wire you are missing. It connects to the 4 pin on one side, then splits into a Y with 2 pins on one and 3 on the other (that connects to the hardtop). The 2pin connector connects to the catcher and acts as a switch (if the hardtop is in, the defroster turns on, if not the defroster circuit is broken).

You need to get that wire. It is part of the kit.
If you have an 02-04, you need the C kit which has a different Y wire and catcher. The circuit in the 02+ works a different way...when the hardtop is in, the defroster circuit goes to the hardtop, when not, the defroster in the softtop is on.

EDIT, since you have a 00, you need kit A. I'm guessing this is in reference to your loose 3-pin connector.

I think you need to get install kit A. I think that will have the correct harness.

the hardtop comes with kit B which is has parts that are not compatible with the 00.

 

i was just wondering what hardtop kit do i get for my 01?
