Default Hardwire fender lights

So I was helping my friend with his corner/fender lights. It seemed easy to do at first but until I pulled the left one off and saw it had three wires. Looked like two powers and one ground. I know the bulb did not have dual filaments so the other wire must have been going to something else. After some fun (having a light show trying the wires out), I found out that one wire was getting power from the turn and the other was sending power to the left front turn signal. Atleast this is what I am assuming being the given "tests" I ran and the colors of the wires going to and from both of these lights (both green with red). I know the right way should have been getting a service book and looking up the circuit but we didn't have that on hand. I was wondering if anyone knows if the front turn signal has the fender light in series with it, if not what was the reasoning behind the third wire to the light. It was a 01 s2000 if it matters.
