I too was wondering about these enclosures.
As for an 8" sub - they can do a useful job - I run one (just one)
I built my own enclosure out of 22mm MDF that can fitted in the side of the trunk. 0.37 cubic ft internal allowing for the speaker.
Normally it sits in the well but if I need the space then it can fit in the side.
It works with a JL8W3D4 powered with 100W rms. The JL needs an enclosure of around 0.375 cubic feet.
Looking at the spec for these S2kI subs, the internal volume is similar (0.33-0.35), but they use less trunk space than mine. (But mine only cost $25 to make)
Provided they are rigid they should be quite good but as I can testify, you need to match the enclosure carefully to the driver. I made 2 different enclosures before settling with the final design.
