Default Head Unit---Can I do this simply?

I checked the FAQ, but didn't see this addressed.

I just purchased a Delphi XM Roady. I started out by using the wireless FM modulator, however, around here all of the stations it can send to are too powerful (they all bleed through). My other option is to get a PIE Aux connector and connect it directly. This is a good option. I am having a bad time, however, finding it locally and I've had some trouble with the on-line sites selling them. The other option, and the one I want to ask about here, revolves around the stock radio. The stock radio is obviously crap, but I really don't want to spend much at this point redoing the entire thing. I am wondering if there is a better unit out there that can connect up easily using the existing wiring AND still use the built-in controls AND that would have an AUX connector on the front for the Roady.

I am likely kidding myself, but I thought I'd check this option before pressing forth with the PIE. I'm not looking to change speakers nor add an amp. Just replace the HU simply.

Possible?

Thanks.

The only HU I have heard of that allows you to keep the dash controls is an Alpine that you can only get from Europe.

Otherwise to keep the day controls you would need one of Lucid's DCIs or do DJ Qube's mod which would add extra cost.

Do you have a wired FM modulator, or is it a "broadcast" type? To clarify, did you plug the FM modulator inline with the antenna to the HU or is the FM modulator totaly stand alone? If it is stand-alone you could look for one that wires inline with the antenna which would effectivly unplug the factory antenna when you turn on the XM.

The PIE is likely your best bet.

That's what I said!

You can use almost any HU and keep the dash controls. You just need a DCI available from lucidautomotive.com Most of us here have it and love it!
