Default head unit install at circuit city -- $180!?!

Hey Guys,

I bought a pioneer head unit from circuit city since they offered free installation. However, the kid there told me that the install would be $180, since he will have to totally rewire the speakers in the car. He also told me that my car had an amp behind the driver's seat (as well as a subwoofer!! I never knew..), and that's why it's so expensive, since he'll have to rewire the head unit from the "amp" in the back to the speakers.

Needless to say I declined the install pending some research on my own. All the guides I've seen make no mention of this being the case.. it just seems like a pretty normal swap. Is this kid totally full of it? He claimed that he had to do the same thing to an 02 s2k last week.

Did what he say make any sense?

Do you have the factory head unit? Do you see an amp behind your seat? I thought not. The kid is probably trying to rip you off. Besides, if the car already had an amp, then it would already be wired for the amp. Head unit install should be free on this car. It is very easy. You do realize, however, that the dash controls will no longer work without either a modifry DCI or another adapter, don't you?

Yes, I'm aware the dash controls won't work.. I'd rather have a nice head unit with ipod integration.

Ok, thanks for the info. I knew that didn't sound right.

Edit: Yes, I have the factory head unit. Good riddance to that!

he must have had the s2000 mixed up with something else. like a new miata or mercedes convertible something lol. Silly kid. I am sure it was just a misunderstanding.

what circuitcity was this? I will straighten them out.

honestly in your 02 the install is mad easy. If you buy the Circuit City Smart cables you wont have to wire up anything. Just click the harness together and its done.

*edit; unless your buying the DEHP6900UB. The normal pioneer smartharness ccity sells will not work*

VorionDrow - Can you elaborate a bit on bypassing the preamp? I think that's what is confusing this kid.

I'd just like to go in there armed with knowledge before I have this retard messing around with my car.

yeah, fill us all in as I've been through every inch of my s2000's audio
system and have never encountered a preamp...

Even more of a reason to be suspicious.
