Default head unit rattling

Hey guys so I got a new exhaust and my aftermarket head unit makes an annoying rattling sound when I drive I’ve tried tightening the screws on the back of the removable head unit and the housing. I figured out that is just the removable piece, I took it off and took it for a drive and the sound wasn’t there unless i got lucky for a 10 min drive which never happens. So my question has anyone had this do I need a new head unit or is there a fix i can do? I’ve tried tightening the screws and putting a sticky glue that never hardens and that if anything made it worse. It a kenwood headunit and only a year old.

Thanks Craig

I have the same deal. First time it started, I took the HU out to see if I could find anything, but nothing came up. After I put it back in, the rattle was gone. It just came back.

Downside to a modification like intake and exhaust. The volume of the sound will rattle many things that never rattled with the stock setup. I have an convertible top undertray rattle and a radio door rattle that occurs between certain rpms after I installed my exhaust.

The only thing you can do is remove the entire setup and use some felt or deadening material where you can to make the HU fit more securely. Messing around with it should eventually cure it. Otherwise, crank it up and try not to think about it too much.

Are you referring to the plastic trim ring that goes around the face of the radio? If it is, make sure 1 of the (usually) 4 prongs aren't broken. The only suggestion I can tell you is to find some really thin weather stripping to put between the radio and the trim ring.

Most single din HU's these days have detachable faceplates for "security reasons", but I believe there are a few radio's that don't.
