Excuse me asking guys but on the 7894, wont I just prefer using the remote instead do you all recommend I still get the swi-x installed? It seems like the remote would just be better...also anyone know where I can a deck for a good price? I would prefer to pay under 400
if you want to leave the stereo panel down, exposing the hu face then you can use the remote. if you want it covered (which i prefer due to aesthetics and to get it out of the way) you need to use the dash controls. the ir won't work thru the panel.
Question about the Alpine 7893 unit -- does it have an Aux/Line-in? I want to hook up an MP3 player (so I don't want to pay for the MP3 capability of the 7894; my iPod was expensive enough) and I get conflicting answers from people at my favorite sound store...
judging by my manual (since my s2k is in the shop having some minor cosmetic surgery) it would appear that a special connection (verstile link terminal-kca-410c, or ai-net/interface cable-kca-121b) is needed. i don't see any other reference in any wiring diagrams or operations instructions that speak to an aux in.
in short, it looks like it does it, but you need an optional adaptor.

I use an Eclispe CD player in my car with great reviews. It has skipped only once on a rough road with a pot hole, but so did the Apline in my wife's Windstar van at the same spot. It's a great deck, and I use the PAC SW module for the infrared controls so my dash buttons could be used.
