hi i've seen u always help ppl out and also u helped me once or twice. again i have questions u recommended pioneer and eclipse on the first page. i went to best buy yesterday tested pioneer ph7000 and it wasn't user friendly at all and really hard to play around IMO. eclipse new model is not coming out yet. and alpine 9887 doesn't come with BT build in. what abt JVC kd avx40. what do u think abt that HU. i like the tilt option alot on jvc brand. what would u say abt the jvc. thanks for ur time..

...and just to cover my semi-confusion regarding Modify products [if I choose Alpine]: I wanted a Wired DCI for Alpine for $90, then the non-splice harness for Alpine (non-SVC which I don't want) for $25?
Then I can retain my dash controls *and* install the head unit without any splicing into the factory harness?
I apologize to the OP if this is too far off his original topic.

nr7: Eclipse has the CD5030 (this years mid-range model) out for purchase. I agree that the 7200mkII's replacement not being on the market is a bit of a downer. I need to replace the CD7100 in my truck (not operating properly, damn Ebay), but am waiting for the new release from Eclipse.
As for JVC, they are a mid-tier offering. And I would steer clear of any headunit that is so bold as to boast a 200W output - have you seen the size of a 200W amplifier? Kind of hard to fit that in with all the HU electronics/cd player/etc... lol
If you're not in a rush for a new HU, I would suggest holding off until the rest of this year's Eclipse line is out. If you are in a rush, go with the Pioneer 800-PRS if you're running active or the Eclipse CD-5030 if you're running passive.
DT: Modifry's non-splice harness is a harness he's already pre-assembled for use with his wired DCI. At no point in time should you ever have to splice into the vehicle wiring - whether with the no-splice harness or with a regular harness.
I've installed a Pioneer with the wired DCI before. There's no need to splice the vehicle harness. Just a bit extra of pre-install wiring to accomplish (I can even accomplish it for you if you ship me the harnesses - Pioneer HU, vehicle adapter, and DCI).

What would you guys recommend as a good replacement for my aging Eclipse cd8443. I have owned this cd player for well over 5 years, and it has been running my boston acoustics comps, and a jl 8w7 sub. SQ, and good Ipod interface is my priority. I do have the modifry dci for my current dck would that work with a newer eclipse deck? How does the CD5030 compare to the 8443 Thanks for your help everyone
I love the look of the 5030 vs that of the 7200 (not quite as much as I like the classic Eclipse look - 8443, 8454, etc). I would say that as long as you're running passive, the 5030 is the way to go. If you want to step up to (or are contemplating it) an active setup, I would say go with the 7200 (or wait for it's replacement).
In all actuality I have no idea what passive and active hu are or what they do. All I know is I have always liked the sound and look of my 8443 however I just noticed yesterday that the cd player stopped working on it.
I was also reading a little about the premier 800prs. That looks like a very clean looking cd player and has good features as well but not sure how it sounds.

Passive is what you're currently running. One pair of speaker wires per door (2 speakers per door). Each speaker is passively crossed-over.
An active setup uses a 4-channel amp to run each speaker independently of the others.
Sound quality of an active setup is far greater than that of a passive setup for various reasons - mostly due to better amp control of each speaker.
Basically, speakers also act as microphones and their movement transmits back to the amp/xover. In a passive xover system, that return signal can muddy up the incoming signal to both speakers and makes it difficult for the amplifier to dampen the effects. Using an active setup, the amplifier is able to properly dampen those effects before they can affect other speakers. In other words, cleaner/more accurate sound reproduction.
The 800prs and 7200mkII both support active xover setups. Here's a review comparing the 800prs, 7200mkII and Alpine 9887. Keep in mind that the OP isn't really fully used to using the controls on the HUs. http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=266406

You'll have to run speaker wire to each speaker from the amp - so depending on your current setup, you'll have to run 1 or 2 new runs of speaker wire to each door. I say depends b/c it depends on where your passive x-overs are mounted. Mine were mounted in the door, so making the switch to active required only one new run of speaker wire to each door as the original input to the xovers was long enough to be used for the woofers.
You'll also need a 4-chan amp. dedicated to your door speakers.
