Help Head Unit
I had the same problem. I'll try and explain how I got it out.
This is a two person job. Take the drivers side panel by your right knee off. Then with a long screwdriver have one person from the back put leverage on the bottom of the screw pushing up while the other person from the front tries to remove the screw. The leverage from the back allowed me to remove the screw without having to drill it out. Then use a slightly larger screw thread when you put it back in to eliminate the problem.
Hope this helps.

Not sure of the problem as it worked fine for me. Is the screw turning, just not coming out? Try a magnetic screwdriver and gently pull the screw free as it turns. It's a tricky technique. If you stripped out the screw try the craftsman 'screw-out.' Pretty handy little deal.
Just some suggestions if you don't have a helper.
