Default Help! I took my remote swimming!

In a fit of stupidity yesterday I went swimming in the ocean with my alarm remote in my pocket. DOH!

I dried it out and replaced the battery but it's still not working. Although the light came on briefly.

Any ideas on whether the remote can be repaired? Or am I stuck buying a new one (which I doubt will be cheap).

Thanks in advance.

You will prob have to get a new one. Taking it apart to dry would have been your best bet on saving it.

I had a Toyota remote that got dropped in a lake. I opened up the case and dried it out with a hair dryer - still working 2 years later

Saltwater can be a whole different animal though.

Try replacing the battery first. It'll discharge quickly if immersed.

It probably got shorted out when u pressed one of the buttons.

Best thing would have been to dry it out w/o the battery in it. DO NOT try to use it for a long time.

A lesson learned the hard way by me! (dropped my cell in the toilet!)

The saltwater would act like a short for the battery, so assume it's dead...not sure if by "replaced" you meant put the battery back in or put in a new battery. Take apart the remote and wash thoroughly with warm water. Dry it thoroughly with either compressed air or a hairdryer (but don't heat it up). Put in a new battery and it should work without problems.

The salt water is going to make the metal connections on the board corrode rather quickly. Suck it up and spend $40 on a new remote.

As long as it hasn't been sitting there for a year, he'll be fine. That's why I suggested a good dousing with water, preferably distilled.
