i'm also of the same mentality...

i definitely think your best bet would be to get something and mount the electronics and display separately.

Why don't you call Dakota Digital and ask them if one of their gauges could be "separated" the way you need? Worth a try.

Hope you don't mind if I butt in here with another goofy "home-made" solution:
Go to Radio Shack and get one of their little, thin, cheap multimeters (less than 20 bucks). They are about the size of a small hand held calculator and should fit nicely into that radio door slot. Cut the probes off and extend the wires to the "HOT at all times" empty lead on your fuse panel (red wire) and ground the black wire to well ...... a "ground". When you want to see what kind of voltage you've got, just turn the multimeter on.

I have 2 in the trunk.....both my amps have them. But I want to be able to monitor it from the inside, so I can watch TV and not worry about not being able to start the car.

Ill come up with something, I always do.

If you want to trunk it, the dakota digital ones are the nicest. Its just too thick for my application.

70 bucks?! F*ck that.....

PLus....that sh!t would break with the quickness....look how far it sticks out....my elbow would crack it in half....Im probably gonna go the dakota route, and mount in in the cupholder. I seriously have no space for anything in my car anymore.

They arent big...they are 1" deep. They look great.....

They are about 1.3 inches across, about 1 inch in height, and about 1" in depth.

I just ordered the Volt gauge, and 2 amp current gauges.
