Help me pick speakers for S-pods
#21
I got a set of Blaupunkt TSc series components for $58 shipped from Crutchfield.com. They are definitely not the greatest, but they serve their purpose (rear channel in everyday driving and actual sound w/ top down at speed). As far as the imaging "problem", I dont know of any other car that has BOTH left and right channels in both of the rear speakers.... that seems to be kind of a phenomenon to headrest speakers. I think with the S-pods, the S2000 sounds like a normal sedan with 4 speakers...

Here's an interesting comparison:
I've got about $2500 retail worth of audio gear in my S2000. S-Pods, Alpine HU, 10"sub, 4 channel amp, modfry DCI, 4 Crystal component speakers, & sounddeadening.
My Explorer sport Trac has the stock HU and Soundstream speakers, 2 5x7 coaxials, & 2 5x7's with crossovers, & sounddeadening. $250 retail.
The system in the S has much cleaner highs and definately more bass, but the "system" in my truck is almost as pleasurable to listen to. Environment plays a huge part.

the TSc's are decent....not phenomenal by any stretch, but they get the job done.
As far as the amping of my "system", I am just getting started (only had the car for a few weeks). I am putting in an Alpine 9851 next month with XM radio, a set of 4-way 6.5" coaxials in the doors (not sure on the brand....any recommendations? I was looking at the XPLOD or Alpine S-series (kinda on a budget for these, as I am saving for a good sub / amp / fiberglass box).
i spent around $3-4000 on my Celica GT convertible, and it sounded great... 5.25 components + 8" sub in each door panel, 6.5" Sony XPLOD 3-ways in the back seat, Alpine V12 (300W) pushing those, 2 10" Fosgatte XLC's in a bandpass box with another Apline V12 (600W) pushing those. Had a decent Panasonic HU (not sure of Model # (blue flip down screen)) Sounded great. Looking to do similar stuff to the S2000.....hopefully not that much $ (no custom door panels this time!).

Make sure you tell Mark that you are ordering these speakers, so he can make sure that they will fit well. I had to grind out the 5.25" holes about 1/4-3/8" in order to get them to fit. It woulda been a little more effort, but I had a power grinder. He uses Aluminum, so it is easy to work with. If you find they do not quite fit, you can use some real elbow grease and some coarse sand paper, just get a dremel from Home Depot. Let me know how it sounds. They work great with the factory deck. I cant wait to get the Alpine in there!
