Default HID always on?!

Hey guys,

For some reasons my HID beams are always on as soon as I turn the key. Do you guys know how I could put it back to normal. I don't want to use the HIDs all the time for no reasons...

I live in canada but my S2k was imported from the states a few years ago. I think the guy who imported it might have played with something to get the car pass the inspection.

Any ideas?

So the headlights stay on, even is the headlight switch is turned all the way off and the car is on? Could the previous owner maybe have added an aftermarket DRL kit?

I have a US import in Canada as well... my headlights stay on all the time. The only reason its like this is to pass DRL laws in Canada.

Like Tphong says it was done to pass the inspection

The HIDs are powered through relays which have a constant (+) voltage but are
switched to ground by the headlight switch. Someone has presumably taken the
ground wire from the relays (blue/red) and connected it to something that is only
grounded when the ignition is on - likely they added a relay switched by the
ignition-on accessory terminal in the under-dash fuse box.
If they were smart, the simply tapped into the HID relay ground wire rather than
cutting it, in which case simply disconnecting the added relay should make the
headlights behave normally as they would still be grounded through the headlight
switch.
If you search all the forums for "Canada DRL" you'll find many posts, some of
which may be useful, but in general I think you'll need to crawl around under
the dash looking for wiring that doesn't look like it came from the factory.

Some of the Canadians just disable the HIDs from being always on, and have no daytime running lights.

In Canada it having your parking lights enabled to all the time is enough to pass inspection for DTRL. You could probably rewire it to just be your amber corner markers for this purpose. Mine is setup like this and passed a safety with no issues.

to get my US car to operate with pseudo drl's my dealer uses a denso relay to send ground to the headlight switch so HID's would run 24/7. If your's has this the relay would be mounted near the underdash fuse box driver side, with a wire that runs to the back of the light switch stalk. If you have such a device it would be easily removed, it has one power wire, one ground wire and one wire that goes to the light switch and splices into the wiring behind the light stalk switch. It is fairly small, about the size of a usb thumb drive, probably black colour and a DENSO part.
