Trying to build an active front stage with an Sb acoustics sb17 mid and NVX's version of the sb29 tweeter and wanted to keep the interior looking stock
Will the stock location be large enough, in both diameter and depth, to house this tweeter?
size of the tweeter:
2.32" / 59.07
2.27" / 57.67 mm cutout dia
1.03" / 26.1 mm mount depth
if they're too large, I'm guessing my only option (to make these work) would be to order a spare set of OEM tweeter grills, cut them up and fabric them over
I'm guessing this will also mean removing the oem hardware behind the grill and doing some sort of custom metal work to keep the tweeter held in place
Thats a beast of a tweeter. You are probably going to have to do some fab work behind the stock grills even for significantly smaller tweeters. I had to with my focals.
You're definitely gonna have to do some work to get those to fit in the stock location, those are massive.
I think you'd be better off building a pod to place at the base of the A pillar.
A guy off another forum got back to me regarding this tweeter and it does indeed fit, with a little shaving of the tweeter cup, oem grille, and making a 3d printed mount
Though I am thinking now to make this a longer-term project and try to fab something up on or near the A-pillar
I'm running tweeters from Alpine SPS-610 kit, in door. Definite improvement over OEM. Must install sound deadening mats (I used Dynamat) to reduce buzzing at volume.
I did the Arc Audio variant of the SB Acoustics tweeter. The larger NVX version was too big to fit in the OEM location outside of the door. I just fiberglassed these in using the supplied cup for an OEM like look. I used the poly SB17's in the doors (https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.co...y-cone-woofer/) with homemade mdf spacers.
