HU displays readable in Direct Sunlight
Hi all, first post ever.
I need some help selecting a head unit that is readable in direct sunlight. I haven't been able to find anything with a liquid-crystal display like the stock HU (Nakamichi used to, I think...). It seems like most of the "high-end" HUs come with fancy light panels that aren't really suited for covertibles.
About me:
I drive exclusively top-down, pretty much sunny all year in Hawaii.
I primarily listen to my iPod with through a third-party adapter, occasional audio CD.
Currently using stock speakers, also looking to upgrade if I can find a place for an amp.
Important features:
- display has to be easily readable in full direct sunlight
- ipod control
- currently available (I'm not looking for a used radio)
- clock (AP1)
Desirable but not deal-breakers:
- amber illumination
- MP3 CD capable
I was looking at the Alpine CDA-117 with the Bio-Lite display.
Personal experiences with specific brands / models would be appreciated. Price not an object.
Thanks in advance...

LOOKIG FOR A NEW RADIO WITH IPOD CONTROLS
anyone have feedback about readability of your aftermaket displays in top-down sunny driving?
Again, I'm interests in Alpine Bio-Lite displays, but would be open to other suggestions!
Thanks,
- Reid

I have a Blaupunkt in my boat that is readable in direct sunlight.
Looking at their website, it looks like current models use the same type of display. Check them out in person first though, since I can't be sure.

Life is good!
Thanks for the recommendation.
I checked the website, and their head units look nice. Now I just need to find a Blaupunkt dealer in my area, hopefully with a sound board near a window / sunlight.
The search goes on...
Again - Alpine, anyone? anyone?
