Default HU Install Questions

Hi,

I plan to buy and install an Alpine 9851 HU and component Alpine speakers in my daughters 2003 S2K for Christmas. I found these on the internet at what looks like great prices and I think I can do it myself. I just want to make sure about the dash controls unit and connector wires--can I get both of these from Lucid, and how do I make sure I get the right ones? Down the road, I may add an amp and sub for her or maybe the S-Pods, but for now, this is all I can afford. Again, the only thing I am not absolutely sure of is what other stuff do I need besides the HU and speakers to do the install. Thank You So Much,

Sara's Dad...................Joe

I would get a Modifry DCI Dash Control Interface

I'm sure a local audio shop will have the wiring harness for the aftermarket swap...otherwise ask a customer service rep for the internet store from which you're making the purchase.

Good luck!

I returned your PM before I saw your thread. Like I said in my PM and like Incubus said you can get the DCI. You can get the harness adapter at the same time on the same page as the DCI in the GoFastLab.

OK, but is the Lucid DCI just as good--it is only $59?

I guess so... I've never used it. I have the Qube's controller myself and I for the most part install Modify's DCI for my S2000 clients.

Its totally up to you. You can get it even it cheaper if you hunt around for the PAC unit.

Actually, I did find it for less at another site, but they did not offer a relay for the mute button.......but thanks for letting me know they should work too!

I am amazed at the range of prices for the Alpine 9851 HU I am planning to buy, same for the 171 speakers.

Not the same!!! I have an Alpine 9851 and contemplated the infrared DCI for quite some time now and finally pulled the trigger on the *wired* DCI that is offered now by modifry.

I just got it installed yesterday and the results are remarkable. I have full use of my dashboard controls with instant response from the button touches instead of the lags that are reported for the infrared system. The really nice touch is automatic volume control based on driving speed. Volume is adjusted as your road speed increases/decreases. That last feature alone is priceless - you set the system for standing stop volume and it flows with you up to freeway speeds without further knob fiddling.

Don't settle for an infrared relay!

I'm glad you spoke up. I've never used the PAC. I really wouldn't either. Its honestly been so long since I started using them I couldn't remeber all the differences

Thanks for posting! oh and yes the vehicle speed volume control is a nice touch My clients love it!

Interesting - it appears that there is a wide range of choices for aftermarket dash control extensions available now.

It would be interesting to compile a summary of what they all are and how they work so folks could get a better idea of what their options really are....

Anyone in a position to sample all of them?
