HU seems to function, however there is no sound?
Not sure how common this is or how easy it is to troubleshoot since I'm not very well versed in audio. I can signal trace and do most electronics troubleshooting given my background as a radar tech and do not wish to pay someone to fix something as simple as a car stereo when I troubleshoot back-planes with 600 different CCA's, lol.
So here's the situation. The HU is an aftermarket eclipse unit. It will cycle through all the functions, it shows it's playing CD's and the music from my iPod. However, there is simply 0 sound (music, static, nothing) coming from my speakers.
Just wondering if there's any big checks I should do before tearing into it so that I can make this job quick.
Thanks in advance for any tips!

three things to check:
1) make sure it hasn't been muted with either the dash-mounted mute switch
(if you have a DCI to enable the dash controls to work) or one on the
headunit itself.
2) some headunit models have the ability to turn off the internal amp -you'll
have to consult the manual to see if that's a possibility and if so how to check it.
3) if you have a separate (external) amp, check to see that it is getting power and that the remote turn on wire from the headunit is signaling it
to turn on.

Another thing that ive seen happen is people plug them in to check them but the speaker wires are touchin ( + to - ) and that makes the whole system mute. i dont know if it happens on every headunit. but ive seen it on my alpines. just thought id throw that possability out there, cause if your only running front speakers or w.e the back ones could just be taped up and touching causing this.
I pulled the HU out and gave it a look. All the wiring is very well done and was labeled. I'm going to dig around for an amp tomorrow when I get a chance. As far as I saw, all the wiring was in order and there was voltage at the sources that needed it.
Only possibility is somewhere in an amp or the head unit itself now, correct? That or there are no speakers lol.

It's a 7200. So what would I be looking for? Would that mean I could eliminate the head unit being bad?
your head unit is one of the few common ones that does not have an internal amp. you have to run the RCAs to an external amplifier and run those wires to the speakers. you need to either get an external amplifier or sell the HU and get one with an internal amp.
we've had good luck with sundown amps if you take that route.
