Default will jsut an alpine headunit improve the sound.

I have an o6' and find the stereo acceptable. The only thing I want is XM.I can buy the Honda xm reciever kit and use a micro antenna but even doing it myself its gonna run 350.00(rip).I can get an Alpine head with XM,Ipod, radio dash conrol mod etc for 700.00 installed at a quality audio shop.My question: will this unit be an improvement in fidelity ( clarity at higer volumes) retainning the stock speakers?I've taken hugh loses in the past from doing high end stereo upgrades and promised myself I wouldn't do it again since I change sports cars every 1or2 years. Can I put a simple sub setup in and get better bang for my buck? Thanks John

I just installed the 9857 yesterday and the improvement is incredible . Better sound, more clarity... I love the ipod interface! I still have the stock speakers for now, but I'm looking to replace them soon. I'm just trying to decide if I want to amp or not.

I just got a 9857 and XMDirect unit (with the Alpine adaptor box) Friday, so xMACx's comment is most appreciated -- guess I made a good decision!

While I'm waiting for my DCI to show, I've pulled the stock HU from my '06 and have started to try to find space for the XMDirect and its adaptor box. Man, it's tight under the dash -- not a lot of room for this stuff! More than once I've been curled into a ball in the footwell thinking to myself, "I shoulda paid someone to install this", so archtop, I think you're on the right track going with an installer (I'm assuming you have one you know and trust, of course)...

Can't wait for my DCI so I can button this thing up and hear some decent tunes!

How hard is it to hook the "roll bar" speakers in the stock 2006 car to the 3rd party head unit?

According to the '06 shop manual, the rollbar speakers' connections terminate in the stock HU connector. Just make sure you connect the new HU's rear outputs to those leads, and you should be fine. For what it's worth the harness Crutchfield shipped with my 9857 (which appears to be for all late model Hondas) included wires for the rear channels. Of course, it didn't include the wiring for the dash controls, so I'm waiting for Modifry's harness to show up with my DCI. I hope it has the rear channels wired; otherwise I'll be looking at doing a bit of surgery...
