Default Sony DSX-S100

I just picked up this deck for a good price from a buddy, he never got around to installing it.

Just seeing if anyone had ever used one before and how the built in ipod/usb controls work.

well, since i finally go the car running i figured i'd throw up a review

For the money this HU is really nice IMHO. I dont know alot about this stuff but even with my pos factory speakers the sound is really good.

This HU has a feature that "raises" the sound stage that actually works fairly well. With the top down on the highway I can hear everything clearly.

The controls are slightly wacky, you can tell this thing was designed primarily to enterface with usb/ipod, everything else is secondary.

There are no buttons for presets but radio reception is surprisingly better than the factory headunit.

Since the controls are slightly wacky, the sony modifry dci also does some funny things. When listening to the radio any combination of buttons thats supposed to go up or down presets simply seeks. Its kind of funny, i have about 5 different ways to seek up or down with the dash controls.

Ipod/usb controls work as expected with the dash controls. The ipod/usb slot is big enough to hold an external 2.5inch hard drive or an iphone/ipod touch.

Over all i'm very happy with this HU, defiantly worth the $150 they go for.

I need help on this deck with my MY06

Hi, I also got this. But I can't get it working. I got the harness soldiered, plugged the big harness (blue one) and the antenna. But when I turn off the car, the deck doesn't turn on. I replug the OEM deck back to see if I blew anything, it works. I realize there's the white harness I didn't plug, is that the reason why it's not working?

Would you know why it's not working?

Sony labels one of the wires backwards from the plug-n-play harnes ( i used the modifry dci harness) that could be it.

I dont remember exactly which one it was. You'd have to check the diagrams that came w/the HU and the harness to see where they are different.

Also, if you are using a usb stick, make sure its formatted fat32, this thing wont read ntfs or regular fat file systems.

I can say, i really like this HU.

I put all my music on a 16gb usb stick and never have to change it. the radio reception is really good as well.

I'm curious about this headunit as well. How is the knob control? I'm normally not a fan of multidirectional knobs because you end up with a bunch of input errors while driving. The current Pioneers drive me nuts because of this.

Sony users, is this an issue?

Ahh, okay. I was looking at the newer 200/300BTX's and they have the multi-directional knob so I thought the 100 was the same. Thanks for clarifying.
