i lost my code for my head unit hellpppp
Here is another link to removing the stock radio
http://www.lucidauto.com/guides/radio/radio.html
has good detail on the steps with pix.
In my case , removing the trim ( vents and radio door) was sufficient. Was able to peek through the small gap and read the serial number on the top of the unit without even having to use the philips screwdriver

I'm glad it helped a couple people. The 1-6 thing worked on my 02 and I got the info from a honda dealer. Maybe there's some years it doesn't work on.
You can look for a white paper tag with your vin on it in your glove box or your trunk. Most dealers stick them somewhere. The numbers on the lower right corner is your original radio code.

Thanks for this thread! It was a great help after I left my lights on at the valet parking (valet parking: one of the hardest adjustments when I moved to Los Angeles). My battery died for the first time in the year since I bought my 2001, and the stereo demanded a code. Absurd security for a low-grade stereo, but at least it released the inserted CD automatically.
The 1-6 method for finding the serial number didn't work on my year-2001, and I couldn't find the number for the stereo in any of the mentioned hiding-spots. But ... ashindea's note was very helpful! The actual link to lucidauto's instructions has changed, but go to http://www.lucidauto.com, click "S2000 Audio Installation Guide" and click "Radio Removal Guide". Follow the directions, but don't get confused by the fourth photo ... it's a picture of the removed stereo face-plate. Kind of bass-ackwards to show that first, but you can still use it to figure out where to pry with your tape-protected flathead screwdriver. Then, you still have to trust ashinead --- I really COULD see the serial number without removing the stereo. Just aim the flashlight properly and viola! Sweeeet.
When I called the original dealership, all he needed was my VIN. Doh! They gave me the stereo code with only a smidgeon of attitude. I didn't even need the serial number. I didn't expect Honda of Santa Monica to help me, so it was a pleasant surprise (decent of them). I unlocked my stereo and then promptly added the code to my new owner's manual, AND to my new honda web site account (http://www.ahm-ownerlink.com).
I've lurked for the year that I've owned my S2000 and appreciate all the help hidden in these forums!
Thanks!
