I would like your opinion...
Here is my proposed setup,
Head Unit: Alpine 9833 w/XM hooked up, and modifry's controller... (been in for a while)...
Components: MB Quart QM218.61Q 6.5"
Wiring: 4 guage/4 channel amp install kit through knukonceptz. Upgraded the RCA's to 4 channel, higher quality.... I got 12 guage speaker cable to run to the sub, into the doors, and from there 16ga from the components to the mid/tweeter...
Onto my question:
Is the VGA 500.4 going to work well powering my MB Quart QM218.61Q components with channels 1-2, and powering the Alphasonik 10" with channels 3-4 (4-ohm MONO)??
I am hoping this will work well/sound good, but would like to know if I am going to run into problems... Thanks.
The Power Ratings for the (VGA 500.4):
125w x 4ch into 4ohm STEREO
250w x 4ch into 2ohm STEREO
500w x 2ch into 4ohm MONO
Components: (MB QM218.61Q)
6.5" 2-Way Q Series Separate Components
Impedance: 4 Ohms
Frequency Response: 48-32k
Power Range: 90-170 Watts
Sub:
10

That 500W bridged mono....which channels are bridged for that? I do not see any problems with the sub....if it is a DVC (2-ohms) you should be able to wire for 4-ohm impediance....I think....a DVC 4-ohm can be wired for 8 or 2-ohms, so I think this one can be wired for either 4 or 1-ohm(s). Make sure you wire it for 4-ohms, or the amp will be sent into "protect" mode. Check out Crutchfield Advisor for wiring diagrams for the sub, and their corresponding impediances.
The components are 4-ohm already, so that should not pose any problems.
Make sure when you run the RCA's that you run them down the CENTER console, and the power wire down either side of the door sills. This will prevent any interference with the signal. Make sure you get a solid ground connection. I am not sure, but you may want to looking to a cap. If you are running 500WRMS to the sub, and 125WRMS to each speaker, that is 750WRMS.....I think caps are generally used for 800WMRS and higher.....not sure on this one, may want to ask Philip (PJK3). Those numbers are WRMS, and not peak power, aren't they? Wiring seems fine...12G should do the trick. Make sure you use some KY or WD-40 on the grommets when pulling the wires....makes it a TON easier!
Let me know if you have any other questions!

it's so much opinion and voodoo magic John, it's hard to say.
i generally say don't even worry about them below 800 Wrms. and even at that point? i'm of the opinion if you're just talking about 400 Wrms for a sub and 400 (100 x 4) for highs, i wouldn't worry about them.
i guess i'd be concerned when your sub starts to get near 800 Wrms in power, and if you're running a lot of other components as well.
the real guys to answer this question (MacGyver and modifry) never seem to agree on it anyway...
but they are the ones i'd trust for the issue.

you may have gotten the 800 from me. i usually say that if you're below 800, don't even discuss it. imo once you hit 800, a review is reasonable, but it isn't a guarantee that you need one...
