ICE Wiring Run Lengths ?
I'm getting ready to begin my install and just need to pickup the cables. I intend to run deck power to the S-PODs and use a trunk-located Van Gogh (125x4) amp to run both the door speakers and a trunk-located subwoofer setup. My question is, using DarkKnight's cable routing locations what length (and gauge) cables should I get for the following
- Amp power?
- Stock-located door speakers powered by amp?
- S-PODs powered by head unit?
- Head Unit - Alpine 9833 so I need to run a direct battery hookup for the internal amp?
I dont remember Johns exact wiring style, but generally, from the trunk to the battery in a straight line, its about 9 feet. Add some turns and tucks, youll need about 15 feet. Speaker wire, get about 30-35 feet. Its better you have more than less (youll need some wire to go from crossovers to amp as well)
As for the headunit, you can just use a harness, you dont have to run it directly to the battery.

Pretty much what Dave said. I would get about 20 feet of 4 gauge power cable, I would also get about 50 feet of 4 conductor speaker wire ( I know that sounds like a lot but I've done it a couple of times and I always use about the same but I'll explain myself)
First of all I would use a 4 conductor 16 or 14 gauge just to make life easy so...
You'll need roughly 18 feet for the S-pods to HU, you add a little extra just because, for the door speakers assuming you leave the cross-overs in the trunk area you'll need about 14' for the drivers door and about 8 for the passenger door. Plus you'll need a little to go from the amps to the cross-overs so we'll say 10 more feet for that. Plus 10% just in case you need a little extra. So 50' is a good number.
So the speaker wire ordered online should run you about $25-30 bucks, and the power wire should be about about $20 bucks
I disagree with Dave on using the harness instead of running directly to the battery only because you're going to have your HU's internal amp on to run the S-pods.
