Default im dum in stereo things....$400 to spend help!

i saw the soundstream amp at bestbuy today for 199.99. dunno the model number, but the max watt was 900. are they good amps?

i have a MY00 with stock speakers and headunit.

i was thinking about just getting a good 10-12 inch sub along with an amp by using stock headunit with upgraded speakers. is that possible?

what would be the difference between having all these items (amp, sub, aftermarket headunit, speakers) and having everything but just keeping a stock headunit?

can anyone can recommend me the best way?

what amp is good for the bang? also with subs? what size? etc

thanks,
John.

Dont waste your money. Get a good headunit, and some nice speakers for now. Amps dont matter if they dont get a nice signal.

One more thing, Best Buy does not deal soundstream, so you saw wrong. Soundstream also doesnt label their amps like cheaper ones....ie 900W MAX!

perhaps it was a sondstorm. i've seen them before.

btw -- i agree completely w/ Dave. get a new decent HU and some good high efficiency upper line coaxials or entry level components. (high efficiency --> greater than 90 dB/W/m)
buying an amp like that and hooking it up to the OEM HU (headunit) is a waste of money. a good Alpine HU w/ V-drive will probably make more real power than any of those amps, and you'll have a much cleaner signal to boot.

okay thanks for the info. i will get a good headunit to start off with.

then what speakers, amp, and subs would you recommend for the best bang and sound? also tell me where to get them and put price plz?

I don't want a show quality sound, just a decent sound.
thanks,
John.

Ok here's what I did, I had $500 to spend, so I spent wisley and came up with a pretty good system. It sounds good (alot better than stock), but its not a boomer system by any means. I bought everything off e-bay, but buying in the store would not have been much more.
Kenwood Head Unit - $200
Alpine Component Speaker Set - $100
Kenwood Woox Sub Woofer - $150
Keep in mind I was not in the market for big bass sound, just a good balanced sound system. Component speakers are a must, the head unit is good (but not the best on the market), and the Woox provides a rich bass sound mounted in the passenger foot well. Overall I like it.

I would love to sell you an amp and sub setup - but agree with the others:

Buy yourself a decent high power CD/MP3 HU and some decent components for the doors. Then you can call me in 3 months and I can get you into a sub and amp for another $400

well, for $400 - you're going to be committed intially to a HU and some upgrade speakers. subs and amps will have to come later like William (WLaurent) said.

before i can recommend anything for speakers - i need to know more about what you listen to and your general listening tastes... also, on whether you intend to eventually add a sub or not.
