Image Dynamic questions
I just got my system installed.
The system consists of an alpine HU cda-9857, jl xr components, jl 500/1 and jl 300/4 amps, and an image dynamics IDQ-10v2.
The sub sounds clean but the sub can't handle my amp. It bottoms out with the gains set very very low. Some songs the sub will be loud and while other songs the sub won't be noticeable at all.
My mids are a different story. The mids are CLEAAAAAAAAAN. So much mid bass that it sounds like they're subs sometimes, which I like. I have my head unit set at 100 hz and on my amp at 110 Hz or so.
The box I had built is roughly .6 - .7 cu ft. The shop thinks the box is too small...and I agree. The sub also only handles 300w max, I questioned them about this at first and he said it would be fine. Wrong. Now they're willing to make me a new fiberclassed bottom box with a IDQ 12v3. He said I could go with a 10" IDmax but he said i won't have the option of taking the box in and out. I need that possibility to do so because this is my only car and if needed, I have to take the box out and carry luggage.
Anyone using Image dynamics to comment on this setup and the future setup of a IDQ 12v3?

The IDQ can get pretty loud, ive ran my 10" IDQv2 with 600 watts no problem in a 1.0 cu ft box. Ive noticed, the IDQ's are somewhat power hungry but they can get decently loud considering they were designed for SQ.
The IDmax is a nice sub as well, great output, but dont perform as well as the IDQ in terms of SQ. The max will play lower, depending on the box, but not worth the upgrade IMO.
Havent tried the IDQv3 so i know nothing about it.
go to the carsound forums and talk to matt bogardt, he has his own section called "matt bogardt on fabrication" he is "the man" at ID. Probably the best "old school" installer. He can give you some great info on ID products.
I went to a shop called Audio Industry in City of Industry.
I think it may have something to do with the box that was built. It was fairly small.
I like how the sub sounds, just i was expecting it to be a little more boomy since I came from running jl audio w3, w6, and w7's in my previous cars.
I wanted to go with ID because of the price and all the internet hype i was hearing about.
I hope the 12" IDQv3 will provide what I'm setting to accomplish.
