Installed rear speakers
I ordered a metra harness for the pins. They sell both the male and female sides. You need the male connector, best described as the one that plugs into the factory radio. I looked at a write on here to see which location they went into. You will need a pin removal tool to get the new pins out of the harness, or you will need to be really good with a sharp pick.
Yes, still running factory fronts, or at least what was in the car when I purchased it. They are blue and seem to be a mylar cone and not paper. Any how, they look better than most factory speakers and with my new rears, they sound ok. I did add a sub for a little more bottom end, so the fronts and rears are only for mid and highs. I have custom mounted a bass knob on the center console so I can adjust my bass as needed. It works for me.

I ended up hacking the harness from my Civic's cassette deck since it was gathering dust anyway.
I managed to take out four pins with the help of a small screwdriver.
When I installed them into the HU harness I managed to swap the right rear with the left rear speaker so I had to take them out and redo. I guess I am getting good at it ;-) ....
The sound is definitely much improved over the stock setup.
I also added an auxiliary input and routed the cable to the box that's in between the seats. It sounds even better when I connect my mp3 player to the HU.
Thanks for the writeup and the guidance.
Below are the HU harness connection for future reference.
As you look at the back of the radio with the harness facing to you the top pins are numbered 1 to 10 left to right and the bottom ones are 11 to 20 also left to right.

The vents are also used for closing the door. Rather than pressurizing the cabin as you slam the door shut, the pressure is vented through those vents, through the trunk and out the grille hidden behind the bumper.
I originally did this mod and added two 4x6 rear speakers.
They sounded good but were distorting at higher volume levels so I decided to install 6.5" speakers instead.
With the 4x6 speakers you could hear both mids and treble.
The 6.5" are much better at higher volume levels (read: with top down ;-)) and provide better low end which the 4x6 were lacking.
I am using the stock head unit.
One strange fact is that even though my front and rear speakers are the same (Polk DB 651) the head unit doesn't seem to route too much base to the rear speakers.
An aftermarket unit might fix that but the OEM sounds really good the way it is (I am using an AUX input + mp3 player) to warrant installing an aftermarket unit.

I bent the metal by taping it up so I would not scratch it and using a dead blow hammer. The wires behind the radio have been documented on this site and I did not take pics, as I did it last year. The radio has the option for rear speakers, it just does not have pins in the connector. You can purchase the pins, our a metra harness that has the honda connector. Search on the site for the radio pin out diagram and label the wire and run down the side of the center console or under it. It worked out great. If someone already has the links and posts them here, you will have everything you need to do this.
