Default installed v1 behind windscreen today..

thanks to james (reedz) for his easy base ala radio shack. his instructions were right on and easy to follow (https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...&threadid=18740 ).

now with that being said.. WHAT A F*C^ING MAJOR PAIN IN THE ASS IT IS TO GET THE WIRE TO THE REAR!!! lucky for me i hardwired the v1 two weeks ago, or else this job wouldve been even longer. it took me about 3 minutes to do james' v1 mount, and over an hour to run the rj-11 to the new location!
at first i tried to fish the cable to the passenger side.. no luck.. its sealed tight on the passenger side.
so i then ran it under the knee pad and then my first major pita.. getting the cable under the carpet and making the 90 degree angle near the shifter. 2 broken nails and 5 seriously raw fingers later, i was able to get it under there. thank you honda for making the center piece snap out so easily! now the hardest part of the entire install.. getting the wire inbetween the rear panel and the center panel.. 2 screws at the base of the center, 2 screws to hold up the side panel (which are very hard to remove if you cant find your damn 8mm socket!!), and then 2 more screws underneath that. still i could not separate the side from the center enough to run the rj11 thru. i pulled millimeter by millimeter on the plastic to squeeze the rj11 in.. finally getting to the top. plugged her in and realized that i didnt have enough slack on my rj11 to open the top!!! DOH!!!

pulling on the rj11 proved fruitless because it was wedged in so tightly.. i had to start ALL OVER.

ok, so it was my fault that this install was such a PITA... next time im sure it'll only take me about 20 minutes to do the entire job from start to finish.. BUT, ya know what?? i really dont like the way my V1 sits there.. i kinda thought it wouldve been more "stealth", but now it sticks out like a sore thumb! when the v1 was up on the right hand side of my rearview, all i had to do was flip down the passenger visor to conceal the v1 from people behind me.

now im seriously considering rick's tinted windscreen to hide this monster.. anyone know if the tint would reduce the rear radar capabilities of the V1? my rear window is already tinted.. with the top up the detector looks great cuz you cant see the damn MONSTER!

like ricky ricardo once said.. ay yai yai luchie!

i'll have pics once i install the software that came with my digcam.

thanks for letting me rant.. my fingers feel worse now that ive been pounding the keys on my keyboard

someone please post pics of rick's tinted windscreen.. i want to know exactly how dark it is, and if it'll conceal the V1.

it kinda sticks out a little (remote display), but its very easy to see because its always in my range of forward vision. i thought about mounting it near where you have it, but i dont think its as visable as where it is now.

I have my concealed display unit in the exact location as "bkw" does. In a matter of fact, I would've thought it was my S2000 if it was not for the rear mounted V1.

Anyway, I like the location of my concealed display unit for the exact reasons that "bkw" stated.

Question: Does the rear V1 location improve your sound awarenass of the unit? I have a difficult time hearing mine going 85mph+ with the top down and the radio blasting (I did modify my stereo, speakers, added an amp (75rms x 2 for the front speakers) and a sub (200rms x 1 for a 10" sub).

I purchased the remote audio unit and I plan to set up small speakers in the netting of the headrest, but I haven't found the right speakers for the application.

I'll get pictures after I finish the mounting.

I have Rick's 7/8 tinted screen and it's near impossible to see the V1 from more than 50 feet away. You have to be REALLY looking for it (like a cop or thief) I noticed what brought attention to it at all was having the S2000 logo on the screen. When people see that logo, then the V1 becomes noticeable from a hundred feet away or so (no tape measure, sry). Get the tint, w/o the S2000 logo.

Just my 14,000 rupees

Maybe I caught ya before ya did the change to tinted. Yes, using tint will affect the performance of radar and laser. It's literally like putting sunglasses on your detector. I have heard of a performance loss of up to 60% for radar AND laser because of just going through a windshield, not tinted. Adding tint will make the performance drop even more. I believe Valentine 1 has some numbers on this stuff.
