Installing hi/lo converter
Hey guys, I just purchased an 09 Honda Pilot Touring with Nav and RES dvd. It has a 10 speaker system with a Panasonic amp from the Factory.
I am trying to add more bass and have installed hi/lo converters in other cars, but I am having trouble with this one.
I tried to connect it to the harness behind the OEM radio but the speakers that I would tap into would cut off when I attached the converter....
Later I tapped into the harness that goes to the OEM amp. The speakers stayed on after connecting the hi/lo and I was able to get the amp and sub working BUT it wasn't at it's full potential, it sounded about 30% as good as it did before.
ALSO if the doors were open it would sound normal and when I would shut all the doors the sub would hit and make this sound like ..."wommm wommm wommm wommmm" Sorry that's the best i can describe the sound. When I would open the door it would stop and beat to the music again.
I am lost, please help. Thank You
Oh I was trying to install a JL Audio 500/1 and a JL Audio 12w3v3.

You need to connect the hi/low after the amp. If you connect it before hand the sound quality is not nearly as great. What wire are you using for the remote turn on (what is it connected to)?

I connected the remote wire to a yellow wire on the amp harness that didn't supply power until the ignition was turned on...
Do you know how many volts the speaker wires should have to connect the hi/lo and also the voltage for the remote wire?...
The remote wire had less than 12 but more than 11 and the speaker wires were around 6.5-6.6.
Also i disconnected the remote line after hearing the noise and the amp still powered on when the ignition was turned on and I still got the strange sound
Here are some pics to help.

The plug looks like the one on the back of the radio but the wires do not match

The colors on this harness match the colors behind the radio and the yellow wire is what I tapped into for the remote line.

I bought a tone generator from ebay. It sends a signal through the speaker wire, and an audible sound is heard. if there is no sound, then it is either the incorrect wires or the input harness. I personally would either go to 12volt.com or installdr.com and look for wire colors. Or you can go to a vehicle specific forum and see if anyone else has done the same thing before.
