As part of a speaker update, I have a set of Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1s on the way. My car is a 2001, without stock tweeter pods.

Right now I'm anticipating installing the tweeter pods from a later year car onto my door panels. I'm hoping the door panels are similar enough that the pods could be installed and keep a stock look and feel. Anybody know of a guide or set of photos for this mod?

Am I heading down the right path for installing component speakers in a <2002 car? Is there another route I should take?

I've searched the forum and the only other idea I saw was the molded A-Pillars. Didn't care for them at first, but the more I look at the photos the better they look.


** UPDATE ** I appears I was not using the correct combination of words for my search. Searching for "tweeter pod" gave me lots of ideas to experiment with. I'm going to try some different temp mounting spots to see what sounds best to me, and avoid cutting the door panel since they are $$$$ if I goof things up.

I am wondering if there is a marked spot on the back side of the door panel for tweeters?

I remember installing them in my 94 Integra and when we pulled the door panel off, there was a circle that all you had to do was cut out and it was done.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?? It would speed the install time up as you wouldn't have to worry about getting both sides lined up the same.

BTW, I installed these speakers in my 94 teg and loved them!

 

I don't believe there is a premarked circle for the tweeters as there
was no tweeter option on the early cars. when they added the tweeter
pods, I think they also added a little plastic ridge by the cutout that
the tweeter backing plate sits on. I don't think it would be too hard
to retrofit the tweeter pods to the older door panels, but in addition
to making the cutout, you'll need to make some sort of spacer to take
the place of that ridge (the tweeter pods don't screw into the door,
they screw into a backing plate which sandwiches the door panel).

 

Right now, I'm leaning towards either:

A) Making a bracket that extends from the door handle trim to hold the tweeter (no cutting of the door panel, and would be easy to make)

B) Cutting a spot just beyond the door handle and mounting the tweeter there (has a clean look and the positioning seems like it would be better than the factory location)

I'll be experimenting for a while before I cut anything. The threads on the site gave me tons of ideas for placement options. Now I just have to wait on the parts to show up.

 

Just drill a 1" hole in the door panel and call it a day. The perfects come with a few options for mounting, so you should have no problem mounting it at all. Your sound will be a lot better if you have them at face level, rather than stomach level.
