interior lighting
i really not a fan of the dim lighting in the s2k both in the interior and trunk. im used to bmw's light everything up.
so i was thinking about using white led bar or white neon bar to light under the dash when the door is unlocked or door open(whichever or both).
i did a search and domelight wire and ceworkman said
" I pulled the wiring schematic up for the car and the dome light wire is in a 16 pin light blue connector on the passenger side under the dash. The wire color is is green with a yellow stripe and it will have a constant 12v with the door closed and be grounded with the door open. Hope that helps all of you considering it. "
so could i use the constant 12v from the fuse box under the driver dash for the 12v on the light bar and then use the 'green with yellow stripe' wire as a ground so that the bar lights when the dome light lights up??
is there another way, is there a better way? any suggestions?
also for the trunk, do i just tap the existing light to power the light bar? is there enough current?
thanks for any input. hope it's not a repost

yes, the green/yellow wire is the DOMELIGHT wire...some have very mistakenly confused this wire with being the DOOR TRIGGER, but we all know the door trigger is black/white
Depending on where you get that wire, many sources as well as the keyless module behind the engine start button, will yield the same results.
how many lights you plan to use will determine if you should use a relay to power them all up.
One or two lights and you should be fine with hooking the positive side of the wires to 12v constant and running the ground to the green/yellow wire to give you the ground when the door(s) are open.
running one light in the trunk off the trunks light will be fine, hooked up the same way...just have to get 12v constant back there if its not already.
any more than 4 or 5 lights off the domelight circuit and Id use a relay just to be safe.
any standard bosch relay or the 4 prong single throw you can get at radio shack for a few bucks.
the green/yellow would go to 86 on the relay (just run a wire tapped into the green/yellow and hook it up to 86 on the relay)
85 would go to 12v constant
87 would go to chassis ground
30 would be the new output from the relay that all of the lights ground wires would go to.
if you have a bosch relay thats double throw, pin 87a will not be used.
if you want to use 2 relays, one for the above ground and the other for your 12v constant you can.
85 would go to 12v constant (good source such as the appx. 12 ga. white wire off the ignition harness, or straight to the battery...ignition harness is easier and just as good...depending on how many lights used, figure about 1-2 amps of current draw ,if that, from each light... fuse accordingly.)
86 would be another line tapped off of the green/yellow (or the same line used above split off)
87 would also go to 12v, so tap the 87 pin off the 85 pin.
30 will now be your 12v output from the relay to power all of the lights.
If the relays dont have the plug in wiring harness and your tapping onto the bare prongs, get some female quick disconnect terminals that will slide on tightly.

Wow. Great info. So I can do either one? Relay that grounds the lights ground or relay that powers the lights 12v line...
I'll probably do relay just in case for the 2(1 under each footwell). For the trunk I can fit 4 light bars since they are only 6" long. Do you know where I can get a constant 12v+ in the trunk?
Thanks for the reply
