Default Interior panel removal?

Bought a new head unit, changer, Sirius, Amp and sub. I chose complete JVC as the J-Link allows for the connection of the Sat and Changer in the trunk by a single cable. I ran this cable through the tunnel next to the handbrake. I loosened up the govebox and gently bent it up to run the cable, but now the clips won't go back into place properly.

It looks like the entire assembly is supposed to install from the front first and then three screws in the back, but I cant get at the three screws without removing the rear trim between the back of the rollbar covers. It almost looks like I have to remove the softtop compartment bottom to pull this small piece off, but I can't believe that the Japanese engineers would be this dumb. What am I missing??

Does anyone have anyone have any links to complete glovebox and secret compartment removal and reinstall??

Thanks..

Dude i have to say, from my experience, it was a pain to get all this back together. Theres a lot that has to be taken off, and put back on in a certain way. I wish i had some pics to give you.

Yeah, would have done this a bit different had I known. Found this thread:

And it looks like the Honda Engineers were indeed this dumb. 2 screws holding this magic trim piece in the middle behind the secret compartment. 2 screws that you cannot get to without removing the softtop compartment well.

Sh!t F#%k

I am half tempted to reach in there with some dykes and just trim off the clips...

Any ideas on how to remove the soft top well???

You can get them, its a PITA.

The two behind the windsreen are a biotch, and the ones all the way in the back you can get through the trunk with a really long ratchet.

It turned out not to be as difficult as I thought. I think a night of sleep and daylight illumination helped...

So there are 4 friction clips holding the front of the soft top tray in place. These are the special ones that have the pins in the middle for positive hold. To remove, push the middle pin in and then remove the clips. You can do this with the top down. Then raise the top and squeeze your head and arms in between the roll bars. It was a tight fit for someone 6'4"/240, but easier than fighting with the top and bars when the top was down.

Pushing down on the tray will release it just enough to get at the two screws holing the magic middle plate in place. Remove these two screws, remove the plate and then remove the 3 screws holding the glovebox console in place. The whole glovebox assembly can now be lifted out (as long as you have removed the other 3 screws identified in the link above).

Then bend the clips back to the proper position and slip the console into place. Note the secret compartment door must be open to do this. Replace screws, replace middle plate, replace tray clips, and presto...

Thread back from the dead but thanks for that - a mate and I had been scratching our heads about this. We're both convinced the last of the rattles are in this area and we want to remove our respective storage boxes so we can line them with antivivbration stuff.
