Default iPhone connectivity for OEM stereo (with calling)

After hours of searching and reading through virtually all iPhone adapter topics, I still have a few questions. I am going for a simple task of connecting my iPhone 3Gs to the stock '07 stereo and retaining left-side controls. Here's the catch - among the regular iPhone/iPod tasks, I want to be able to make and receive calls "hands-free". So far I'm really liking the USA Spec PA15-HON2 adapter, which does almost everything I want. I have no idea what happens when a call comes through - does it play the sound through car speakers or just does nothing? Is possible to hack it to talk on the phone through external speakers? What about getting some sort of external bluetooth kit and hooking it up to the AUX port?

My second option is GROM Audio adapter with Bluetooth dongle. It looks like it does everything I want and then some. I like the ability to connect through bluetooth and charge it only when necessary. But I am hesitant to get it due to bad reviews. Some users indicated that the adapter would stop working sporadically or when headlights are turned on/off and the only way to fix is to restart the car (wtf?). I'd like to hear more from people that actually own the unit. I really don't want to kill my starter cause I'm saving $10 bucks.

Now, before you start saying to get a brand new unit, I want to mention that the cost is an issue. Half-decent HU + Modifry DCI would easily reach $250. Plus this increases the risk of theft, which I'm trying to avoid.

TL;DR: Want iPhone control with OEM '07 unit and side controls + calling. USASpec, GROM or other options? No aftermarket HU though.

most iphone adapters i've used do not transmit audio through the speakers. the only method i've used is by using the headphone jack, but then you would need another wire for charging.

gonna look and see if there's an iphone app/mod for it though.

Most people seem to replace the head unit so I'm not surprised at the lack of response. You might want to try a more general forum site with more activity since there's nothing really S200 specific about your question.

Now that I think about it, you're right. After further research, I see that the problem is the iPhone, not the adapter. Looking to see if I can the iPhone somehow...

I'm returning my GROM ipod adapter with bluetooth dongle.
Can't stand the noise and whine when connected to my iphone 4.

i got the USA SPEC adapter for my iphone 2 yrs ago.. like you said it does everything except transmit call voice into your speakers.

for example, if you get a call while connected you will hear the ringer on your speakers, but once you answer it you will only hear it on the phone.

Have you guys found a solution to this? Can the audio out from the phone be switched?
