so im guessing stashing the ice link as far back behind the stock radio isnt a good idea? damnit does this mean i have to go and take everything apart again?
Actually, it sounds like that's the best place. I've had mine there for 4 or 5 months with no issues. A lot of the people who's ice link has failed had the circuit board mounted under the console near the shifter or the e-brake.

My unit was placed in the front of the car before the radio and lower than the head unit. This is not the transmission tunnel but where they show to install the older NEO unit.

Mikey, what year is your car and what unit do you have?

I spoke with a guy named Michael at mp3yourcar.com and he was really professional and worked with me to resolve the problem.. Will report how things go when the new unit arrives.

I have an '04 S. I have the Dension Ice Link Plus. I put the circuit board way back behind the radio. Pretty much as far back as I could get it. Directly behind the radio way back there is sort of a pocket which is where I put the circuit board.

Mine is in the same spot. And after 2 hours it is dead. They are replacing the unit.. I hope it works, but I am not expecting much at this point. The problem if not heat is quality control because from what I see just as many fail as work. Would you purchase a car with that reliability?

I too stashed mine next to the shifter at first and suffered from having the unit overheat and quit playing. Since I wanted my ipod in the console:

I had to extend the cable. It turns out that the pin configuration is the same as an old Apple serial cable. I headed up to Fry's and picked up a 6' extension cable. I was able to keep the ipod in the console and now the Icelink unit is tucked up under the passenger knee panel. When I'm driving in the heat I've got the A/C on and it stays nice and cool.

I haven't had a glitch since.

Cheers

hey guys its been about at least a week with the icelink for me. so far no problems at all except...... it stopped playing once, but i did the trick i did when i first installed it....... plug and unplug headphones. if that doesnt work, turn the ipod off then plug headphones in, turn it on and play something, unplug headphones. no clue why it does that or why this works but ive only had to do it twice. once at install and once 3 days ago
