iPod: Wire Only Vs. Control
I'm still gaining capital to purchase my S2000 audio. I recently received an iPod Shuffle, an own an older 40 gb iPod. It's got me thinking as I rarely use the 40 gb anymore. On occasion, I miss seeing the artist/song on the screen -- but maybe only once a listen.
I've seen a bunch of posts about Alpine's iPod controller, iCruze, and other third party iPod controls. I know Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine and Clarion have such units. Eclipse does not, at least not yet.
I think it's a fair statement most people claim the control units are a compromise. They work, but they're slow. Some require you to make playlists, etc.
For those who purchased controllers, would you do it again? Or, would you just connect through a hard wired aux out ?
For those with an aux out set-up, do you regret not getting a controller?
Any other comments appreciated.

1. It was only $15 from cruchfield.
2. I have an Iriver not ipod. It has a 16hr battery and supports more audio formats including Ogg Vorbis.
3. I don't want to be stuck with any brand for an mp3 player
4. There may be other devices I decide to hook up...laptop, etc...
if i were to do it again, i'd probably just hardwire it. navigating through all the music i've got on my ipod through the alpine interface is frustrating because it's mind numbingly slow. it's a major PIA. the ipod interface is the best.
that said, i'm keeping the kca420i. it saves space in a small car, and once i made playlists that i like, it works well.
but if i were you i'd save the $100.
