Default JVC KD-A815

Hi, all. New S2k owner here. Just finished swapping out the HU of an AP2. The JVC KD-A815 is modifried with a wired DCI.

Pretty much I was looking for a Head Unit with particular features while retaining a near OEM look. I think JVC did well meeting my needs for some S2k ICE. It's a slot load CD HU, I initially feared that the rotary control knob would interfere with the radio bezel, but it clears no problem. During install of the side brackets I noticed there were nubs that prevented the supports from sitting flush to the Head Unit - I just tightened them snug without forcing the nubs into the side of the new head unit... hope they don't back out with all the vibrations.

There's a minor gap all the way around, but with all the black facade, you barely notice the gap - however it can become a debris pit for you OCD types. The shroud on HU is glossy as well vice the matte interior, but black on black nonetheless. And for you ladies out there, the main button panel has a bit of sparkly-ness... hard to notice with the top down. Another big asthetic appeal to this HU is the ability to match the control and display illumination to match the digi-dash..... viola.

There are more hues to choose from to closer match the interior lighting, I just picked that color in the few minutes I had to play with the unit.

On to the meat and potatoes...

This baby has the basics down pact, CD, CD-RW, MP3, WMA, Ipoods etc. etc. blah blah blah. The big items I looked for were the USBs (two, front and rear) and Bluetooth with A2DP (lets you stream media wirelessly). Within seconds of plugging in my micro USB drive the JVC was playing crystal clear music outta stock components. It's a micro SD/USB reader... I had a 8gb laying around, you can fit 32gb... not sure if the head would read it all tho. With my USB drive in I can still close the bezel - pretty nifty (9mm for comparison).

This JVC is DROID friendly. I used the rear USB plug for the Bluetooth adapter and routed it to the passenger side and tucked it in the map/cargo net I was able to stream mp3s off my DROID and control the next song with the DCI interface. Sound quality to my ears at least was great. I'm a bit biased to JVC, I like their user EQ interface, and still do.

I haven't attempted to test a phone call or the microphone that was included with the unit, nor did I wire the speed dependent volume control included with the modifry unit (volume control is a fore/middle finger away ^^).

Overall it's a handsome unit that compliments the S2K well with robust features to meet the new technologies of today. GET YOU ONE!! (too much borderlands)
