Not yet - I haven't made it down the street to them yet - S2k is garaged until probably March or April next year but I'll try to get this finished up. My concern is really just what they said - they may not have a plastic that is as heat-resistant as this factory piece.

Necro bump since I tried to pick this up where it was left off. I contacted a 3D scanning company that does this type of work, and the quote I recieved to just scan the bezel was around 1800. The costs come from what happens after the scan. I was informed the nature of the bezel would require quite a bit of post processing work to produce a file that would 3D print well. I was prepared to spend about half that amount, but at this cost it doesn't seem worth it for a small quality of life mod that is also not trivial to install. Perhaps as scanning tech improves the costs will come down, but as it stands now, this is money I'd rather spend elsewhere (particularly the IMT SC kit).

That unit is specifically for a samsung tablet, and only a tablet. The idea here was to be able to install an actual automotive andriod auto/carplay headunit and avoid having to make a tablet work in automotive environment. Now that you mention them, I surprised they didn't reverise engineer a RHD version of the OEM bracket. I can only guess it's not a trivial task and the returns may not be there.

Although i used the JDM bezel before this come out, I think this one fits better (no gap) vs you'll really need to shape the JDM to make it fit better.
With that said, even though it's designed for the Samsung, you only need the bezel to cover the edges... You can mod it to fit your headunit as you'll have to do the same with the JDM bezel (custom mounting bracket for the headunit and the JDM bezel simply cover up the gaps).

Good point. Maybe even design and 3D print an adapter to attach the Samsung tablet bezel to a new head unit holder.

Might still require cutting the Samsung bezel, then glue or plastic weld the hu holder to it. But seems way more plausible than spending $2k for a scan.

BTW, a lot of those maker space places have portable scanners. Maybe see if a local place has one, join, do your own scan. A lot of work afterwards to turn that into something that can 3d print, but then you can do that all yourself and learn a valuable new skill at same time.

I got another quote($500) that appears more reasonable. I have no metrology background so who knows which quote is more accurate. Most places charge around 150 just for a scan, so this quote has some hours of labor in it which again, seems reasonable since I'm sure the straight scan will need some sort of cleaning up. A friend of mine has a very nice home 3D printing setup that we'll try and pending those results I may seek a professional 3D print. Once I get the data and print it out, I'll update this thread with the results.

yeah this is more in line with what the local shop I was talking to quoted me for the scan and a 3d print as well.

With winter well upon me here in Utah I need to get back around to this.

One thought I've been having is to reach out to some Chinese plastic companies to see if they can do something for a not-too-insane price. I figured since they rip-off reproduce plastic things from other companies all the time perhaps I can find a company there who can do what we want - essentially just make a LHD version mold of this part. I'd imagine that getting 100 of them produced in the OEM black color would more than cover all of us non-RHD-market folks who are crazy enough to want that factory location populated.

However, I do not currently have any contacts over there and haven't actually started searching or reaching out to any yet. Fortunately, I have almost nothing to do during winter and am just about done with school so I should be getting back to this after Christmas.

I'd looked at that before but I think their cutout is too big to fit well around the OEM navigation unit cage hole, and if I'm remembering correctly doesn't it just attach to the dash with double-sided tape? I'd worry about it falling off on a hot summer day if I'm out or the car is parked outside...

Remember the JDM bezel is held on by 4 big clips which fit into the cage piece so it's not going anywhere once properly fit and installed.

I speak some Chinese so if you want to email some plastics companies I might be able to assist.

Download alibaba app to find endless lists of Chinese companies that make everything makeable.
