Soundstream Edge 4220 running 110x2, Alpine 7893 for the head unit, perfects, component xovers are tset as they came from teh factory, although that doesn't matter as now for some reason my amp has gone into protect mode. it was fine, i got out of ym car and went to this girls apt for 30 minutes or so, came back and poof, no stereo. all fuses checked out ok..any ideas?

You install it yourself???

Is the amp on...
if not, check remote wire, (assuming all fuses are good)

Too much bass means your amp is tweaked wrong. Shouldnt be that way.

Also, check power with a voltmeter.
Check after the inline fuse to the amp, sometimes those ANL fuses are blown, and they look fine.

Also, check the ground voltage. Sometimes, a ground just goes bad
Figure out whats wrong with your connection.

you might consider investing in an external crossover.

External crossovers are NOT recommended for the perfects. Frankly, I think they are pretty useless, as hu/amp/component crossovers are more than enough.

i ran the power wire, and the rcas, had a shop finish the rest b/c i was super busy today and wanted it done ASAP. it worked fine for about an hour or two, then nothing. both the green, and red light are lit up on the amp so i'm assuming it's "on", i guess i'll try and track down a voltometer tomorrow sometime. Once i fix whatever the problem is, should the amp automatically come out of protect mode?

thanks a ton.

Yes, the amp shouldnt be in protect mode unless something is terribly wrong. After you get it working...turn down the low frequency, make sure your HPF is on, and turn up the high freq.

whatever you do, turn off MX if your Alpine has it.... it's absolute junk.

ok, i moved it to another ground, same problem. I don't think it's the remote wire since when i turn the deck on, both the power, and protect light come on, and it appears to be getting power..b/c well, the power light is on. Also get the same symptoms when i remove the RCA's all together.

I'm thinking that one of the speaker wires may have come loose/caused a short of some sort? I'm waiting for lowes to open so i can go pick up some allen wrenches and pull the speaker cables out of the amplifier to see if the protect light comes on when i do that. (I'm at the rescue squad all day so i don't have any on me.)

does this sound reasonable so far? any other suggestions?
