Poor Brendon.

I unplugged the adapter from his HU, powered it back up. Then shut it down, and reconnected it. It worked for about 2 days, then died again.

Is there any kind of firmware update available for the adapter or the HU? I am pretty sure there is one for the iPod. You might try that.

Well.... I would try unplugging it and restalling again, checking all the connections along the way on the back of the HU and the KCA-420i.

the aux adapter has to be off on the headunit. it will automatically detect a changer and you will be able to control it like that.

Hmm not sure why it would do this. I've got the same setup, except with a 9833.

I'm guessing its not the Ipod adapter itself. Did you try adjusting the cabling behind the headunit? Did you just swap out one KCA420 for another? or did you swap out the cabling and all. Maybe the cabling is loose from the KCA420 that goes into the head unit. Or something is wrong with the cabling.

I'm sure you have tried this, but try resetting the ipods etc.. and then reconnecting. I've had issues where my ipod wont be recongnized, but I'd have to reset it and it would find it no prob.

There are definitely firmware updates. for the ipod. not sure if this would have anything to do with it though. Do the track titles appear as if it linking fine? is it just and audio issue? Or is it a connectivity issue?

Also it really shouldnt matter what volume your ipod is at once you connect it to the KCA420. If it worked after plugging it in again, mayube try the same process except with the new KCA 420 and cabling. I really think its the cabling. Unless its the dock on the ipod itself. Have you tried listening to the ipod on the dock connector at home? Through like a stereo or something? I doubt this would be the problem, but could be the ipod connection

Any setting on the iPod is ignored in regards to volume. If you swapped out the 420 box, than it would seem that its not the adapter. If reconnecting it to the HU fixed it for a few days, then it died again, it sounds like its the HU. The iPod works fine on other's, and firmware wouldn't affect this issue.

It sounds like its the HU. I dunno if its still under warranty, but I'd talk to them about replacing it.
