Kenwood - KDC-X696 - HU
Hello,
I have a 2006 S2000. I am going to be changing the stock HU, and I think I am going to install the Kenwood - KDC-X696. Link
Has anyone ever installed this unit in their S2000?
I would like to know:
1) Is this a good unit for the S2000?
2) Does the stereo cover close completely when this unit is installed.
3) Does sound go to all 8 speakers? I believe that this unit is 6 channels, but isn't the S2000 8 channels? Will that make a difference?
4) Did the unit make a difference in sound quality with the stock speakers?
Thank you.

1) "good" is very subjective depending on what you are looking for. I have had 2 different Kenwood Excelon HUs in the S and have been happy with the sound. Unfortunately, my opinion really doesn't apply here since I have always used an external amplifier.
2) unknown - I had a Kenwood KDC-X994 install previously without any problems, despite the large knob.
3) Yes, the sound should go to all 8 speakers if the harness is connected correctly. There are 8 speakers on the 06 S, but only 4 channels will be used. You have nothing to worry about here.
4) unknown - No personal experience as I replaced my HU and speakers all at the same time. General concensus on s2ki is that the HU should be the first audio upgrade as it offers the greatest improvement.
Keep in mind that you will lose your dash mounted audio controls when you upgrade your HU. I highly recommend Modifry's S2000 DCI.
