I think you'll find our HIDs pump out nearly as much IR power as most of those laser 'jammers'. No tests done here, but it's an educated guess. So, just turn your headlights on...

bb,

As I said, I haven't whipped out the IR power meter to check. I'm sure those HIDs splash quite a bit of power into the IR region, but how far into it I wouldn't even want to guess at. Any idea what wavelength range LIDARs are clocking at? Maybe I'll get a bug up my ass someday and go measure the spectrum, but until then, I'll just keep a watchful eye out

Car & Driver did a test several years ago where they just used high powered driving lights. They even covered them with some military-type filters that blocked ALL visible light. As I recall, they were 100% effective against LIDARs. The only side effect was the HEAT given off by the lights!

I gotta say I'd be REAL disappointed if all I needed to avoid prosecution all this time were HID's.

Moral of the story is to drive police infested areas with your lights on... Also, here in the Bay Area I saw an interesting sign the other day that indicated that speed was checked with lazer rather than radar... something like: "speed enforced by lazer". It is a first for me here but there must be some law which defines the equipment used by law enforcement for speed controls... Interesting if you ask me. It makes a V1 that much more worth the investment.

The Passport SR1 has a special rear facing laser detector I mounted under the rear bumper....as for trusting your HID lights as a shield....now that's really funny! Ask my wife.....93 in a 70 laser got her and oh yes the headlights were on......which is why she said she couldn't see the dash because of the "dimming function". On the upside she was the one to suggest getting whatever the latest technology was (smaller then a bread box-if you V1 owners know what I mean).
