dash volume control
just purchased my s2k. i must say i love it. i have one problem with it so far. when i use the dash volume control to turn down thee volume the volume increases instead.this doesn't happen all the time but i would say about fifty percent of the time.i took it to my local dealer(not where i purchased car) and the service advisor explained to me that some cars had volume control that adjusted to engine noise, outside noise ,etc. needless to say i just walked out knowing where i am not going to get my car serviced. anybody ever have this problem before? any decent dealers in d.c. area that can service a stook? any help would be appreciated. thanks ,jim
Wow, that tech has no idea! S2000 has no speed sensing volume control (mores the shame).
All the dash controls work by varying the resistance on one lead going to the head unit. My guess is a bad connections somewhere resulting in an incorrect voltage. Could be the head, could be the wiring, could be the dash switches.
Take it to a dealer. Tell 'em to billoddy well fix it pronto!

first and foremost that service dealer is a total idiot. No honda has ever had the volume control on the stereo. In fact the one car maker that i know has this function is Ford and most of the time people turn that crap off cause it's annoying. next...it's not supposed to be that way...i suggest you find a dealer who gives you a more realistic answer like something is wrong we'll look into it =)
I have a 2001 and I've had this happen a couple of times.
Whenever I accellerate then decellerate, I notice the
volume increases very noticeably. Maybe I have an
electrical problem, but at the time I thought the battery
as weak.
BTW, I don't have the problems you are describing jps2k

yea i stopped past the same dealer today and talked to the same service adv.(iguess i'm just a glutton for punishment).this time i demanded that he fix it and the most stupid look came over his face. he replied that they hadn't had that much experience repair this type of car but he would take a look. of course the stereo chose that time to function correctly and i was unable to replacate the problem. he said to return when i developed the problem again and we parted ways.i went to the audio store to for a new amp and speakers. i am thiking that maybe the installer in there knows something more than my honda dealer. i was looking at a small orion preamp maybe 50watts/channel and some infinity kappa speakers. i like the idea of installing amp under seat after seeimg auss2000's setup but was wondering if an amp say 8in x11in. x2 1/2in. would fit under there? any help? thanks, jim

Dealers like this should have their "licence to sell" revoked. If ya can't service em, ya shouldn't be allowed to sell em. You should send them this forum address. They might educate themselves or pee their pants seeing what bad press they just got. I wonder if Honda US and Honda Canada, etc. look at this sight. I'm sure many of you don't just own S2K's. Civics, Accords, Oddities (no insult intended, just not sure how to spell it).
xv: I think it was established a while back there is at least one member here DIRECTLY related to Honda, so yes, they watch the board, but tend to a keep a VERY low profile.
jp: Aus may be on to something with this...I'm looking at my table of resistances for the controls, and the resistance for volume down is 47 ohms, whereas it's 317 ohms for volume up. If the connector is somewhat flaky, it would display a higher resistance than it should, i.e., control says "volume up, please." The next higher resistance is for the CH button, but the values are spread so far apart it may not affect the CH/VOL+ combo (i.e., you skip CD tracks when pressing VOL+). You may be able to fix this one yourself by just reseating all connectors between the controls and the stereo (although that might take a while and some real nimble arms/legs).
