Few things......
1.Optima Yellows do not save weight, they are heavy.
2. Saving weight on a battery?
3. Small batteries will die in the cold within 12 hours.
4. I cant prove this, but you probably have worse (weaker) spark with a small battery.
1. agreed
2. yes/no. if ur full race, i can understand this...
3. Hawker/Odysseys crank very well in cold temps. The cheapos don't do so well. Small Yuasas are very reliable too.
4. No, the voltage is the same, typically the amp hr rating is lower w/ smaller battery. For example the Hawker Odyssey will drain quicker than a standard whatever lead acid, especially if you have an aftermarket stereo hooked up. Other than that it will be fine. Batteries such as the T1R may be small, but I do not think race teams would use these small batteries if they reduced spark in any way.

There is a lot of information on batteries on s2ki if you use the search function.

I would use a small batt. for track days, and if my car had everything possible done to it to save weight. Having a stock exaust and a lightweight battery is retarted weight wise. There are only like 3 people on s2ki that really have a use for a lightweight battery.
