The top requires 3 things:

Parking brake,
windows down,
speed at 0.

If any one of those 3 is not true, the top motors won't receive power. Generally speaking, the windows are automatically rolled down when you push the switch - however, if for whatever reason they're not being seen as all the way down, that could affect the top.

 

i got some progress after tearing everything up, :/

i switched the connectors on the motors in back of the seats, now, with a +12v running to the black wire on the switch only* the up funtion will work, but still the down does not... any insight??

 

Before you switched it, they wouldn't go down?

Does the top go up every time you try to put it up, just not down?

Do the motors move at all when you push the button for the top to go down?

 

before i switched them the motor wouldnt go up or down with the oem switch
now it goes just up,


before, when i bypassed the oem switch completely and ran my own wires, the top would go by up and down no prob at all...

when i press button now to go down seems like nothing happens....

 

You say your 'own wires.' Are we talking from the battery back?

 

^^ no, own wires as in a +12v from the battery, its actually coming from the acc power outlet... but yeah, my own +12v wire....


now the part i am not understanding, is why does the top now go up, but does not go down on its own?? could that be a bad switch??


when i tested the switch for continuity, everything checked out by specs according to the helms manual, but when i checked it for voltage, it only showed voltage when i toggled the up-side of the switch, regardless if i was testing the up or the down wires... if that makes any sense.... :/

 

It's possible the switch is going bad...try this, go to Radio Shack or any auto parts store and pick up a 3-way switch. Pull the OEM switch out and wire the new switch in. If it works, then the OEM switch is bad. If it doesn't, you're only out a few $$...

 

I really doubt that the switch has gone bad. The fact that the car is a theft recovery tells me that the restoration was not done properly. the right way to fix this car would be to replaced the harness that was cut/damaged due to the theft.if you put a price on the time you will spend chasing down the problem could be very costly if you put a price on it.

You might just want to sell the car as is, since it already has a salvage title. I am sure someone looking for a deticated track car will puy it. most of the problem you have go out the window when those systems are removed.

if I have time later today, I will post some info that may help form the ETM (electronic troubleshooting manual)

 

very good point^^ im gonna try the cheap radio shack switch as last resort... if it doesnt work, then im just going to leave the switch as is, with only the up function working, and let the person know about everything else....
